GEORGIA'S DEVELOPMENT in TECHNOLOGY
the cotton grin
The Cotton grin was made by Eli Whitney. He was visiting his friend on a plantation in Savannah. While he was there some one stopped by and was asking Eli's friend if she could make a machine that would make picking cotton alot faster. she knew Eli was good at fixing things so she asked him. He made it and it was a device that removes the seeds from cotton. It would pull the cotton through wires to get the seeds put. the economy boomed when this was made. Georgia became the number one leader in the country in making cotton. but that also meant that there would need to be more slavery.
railroads
Georgia's first railroad tracks were laid in the mid-1830s on routes leading from Athens, Augusta, Macon, and Savannah. The state owned established by the state legislature in 1836 and completed in 1851, connected with Chattanooga, Tennessee, and accomplished that goal. The W&A's southern end was at Terminus (later Atlanta), where it joined the Georgia Railroad from Augusta and the Macon and Western from Macon.
